Troubleshooting
A message doesn’t show
- Identified? Nothing shows before
AppMessages.identify. - Consent? Without
setConsent('in_app', true)nothing is decided. - The placement key: the app’s
placementsmust list it, and the widget must ask for the same key. An app shows at most 10 placements. - Is it Live? A draft reaches only test devices, and only when marked Send to test devices; a paused or archived message reaches nobody.
- Audience, schedule and caps: the person must be in its segment, inside its dates, and under the frequency cap; a popup also waits out the popup gap.
- The image: a message whose image fails to load is skipped this session, never shown broken.
- A new message mid-session: the SDK decides once per session. Call
AppMessages.refresh()to decide again now.
A popup doesn’t appear
It waits until an AppMessagesScope with a navigator is mounted and the app is in the foreground.
One shows at a time, and a popup shown this session isn’t shown again this session.
My test device doesn’t get the draft
Its install id (from AppMessagesDebugView) and the user id it’s signed in as must both match the
entry in Test devices, and the tester must grant in_app consent like anyone else.
The inbox is empty
Inbox cards are kept per user on the device: identifying someone else, or reset(), empties it. A
card whose image isn’t cached yet stays out of the list until it is.
Opening a push does nothing
Pass the notification’s data map to AppMessages.handlePush(data), from
FirebaseMessaging.onMessageOpenedApp, getInitialMessage(), or your local notification’s tap
handler. The click is reported only once someone is identified.
A campaign’s numbers look old
Each ad account syncs itself every day. Sync now in Ad accounts reads it right away.
